Lady Titans win 2nd consecutive road match

November 15, 2009
Ridgeland High School

The Lady Titans traveled for the second consecutive night to open the season. The opponent this time was Vicksburg. The Lady Titans faced a tougher opponent in this match. The team rose to the occasion by posting a 3-0 win over the Missy Gators.

The Lady Titan defense would be even stingier than in the opener by allowing no shots on goal in the first half. The Lady Titans, however, would see 8 shots saved or just miss before they would score their first goal. Senior forward Carmen Bofill opened the scoring in the 38th minute of play when sophomore midfielder Haley Britt stole a pass and sent a diagonal pass all the way across the field. Sophomore forward Shannon Locke received the pass and sent a cross into the six where Bofill was cutting. Bofill hammered the cross into the net giving RHS a 1-0 lead.

After regrouping at halftime, the Lady Titans would see their lead grow quickly. Senior fullback Allison Ayers would drive a free kick over the Gator defense to a streaking Bofill. She would shake of contact from a defender and make a pass by the keeper into the lower right corner of the goal. The final score would be by junior midfielder Sloan Bancroft off a pass from freshman midfielder Olivia Travis. Bancroft drove a ball from the right sideline that carried the keeper into her goal.

The Lady Titans put 17 shots on goal while the Missy Gators shot one behind the goal off a corner and one wide right. Senior keeper CJ Winship posted her second consecutive shutout of the season. "Our defense was key tonight," said head coach Craig Winship. "This team has a great balance of younger and older players. This is a very fast team with a great deal of composure top to bottom. It is fun watching them play."
